Eagles QB Boo'd by Pitt Fans in Home Stadium

    By Timm Hamm,

SEPT 1 - PICKETT BOO'D - Philadelphia Eagles QB Kenny Pickett never had time to warm up to the Pittsburgh Steelers fan base as he wasn't really there long enough to do so. But he was a college star at Pitt, where he played collegiately for five seasons.

That's why what happened on Saturday is so bizarre.

The Pitt Panthers opened their 2024 season against the Kent State Golden Flashes inside their home facility that they share with the Steelers, Acrisure Stadium.

Alum Pickett was on hand to watch his alma mater cruise to a 55-24 win, and during a break in the action, the stadium shows some Pickett highlights from his college football days with the Panthers on the big screen.

That prompted a storm of boos from the Pitt faithful inside the stadium ... but why?

While Pickett wasn't great for the Steelers, he was excellent while leading the Pitt offense.

Maybe 93.7 The Fan host Andrew Fillipponi put it best in a post to his X account:

"Kenny Pickett was great for Pitt. Not so much for Steelers. If you’re booing him at a Pitt game. You need your fan card revoked. You’re there to support the college team. Not the Black & Gold," Fillipponi posted .

Bizarre behavior, by the fans in Western Pennsylvania, indeed.

AUG 28 - BARKLEY'S BIG - The move of running back Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles from New York is a headline-grabber ... and a rankings success.

In ESPN’s top 100 player s ranking for the upcoming season, Barkley comes in 48th.

“Working behind a stout offensive line and alongside playmakers such as Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, Barkley has had plenty of space to operate in during training camp,” Tim McManus wrote. “He has flashed the combination of speed and power that made him so successful over six seasons with the Giants.

New York and Barkley will reunite in Weeks 7 and 18.

AUG 26 - CUTS - The Eagles on Monday afternoon released DB Parry Nickerson, OLB Julian Okwara, G Max Scharping and QB Will Grier, the former Dallas Cowboys preseason folk hero.

The Philly roster, along with those of the other 31 NFL teams, needs to get down to 53 by Tuesday afternoon.

AUG 25 - BANNED FOR LIFE? - Ed Kelce, father of NFL big shots Jason (just retired from the Eagles) and Travis (starring with the Chiefs), says he has been "banned for life'' from X, formerly known as Twitter, because billionaire boss Elon Musk and/or his staff is taking issue with Ed's online discussion about arms dealers and their alleged ties to X ...

Who Ed says "are free to peddle their wares on X, but I'm banned for life and they won't say why, just a generic ‘Terms Of Service’ violation," as he wrote.

AUG 11 - NEW MAN - No, it's not that former Broncos safety.

The Eagles have signed Caden Sterns - yes, he is a former Broncos safety and they have released just-signed linebacker Shaq Quarterman.

Caden Sterns is no Justin Simmons, the All-Pro who remains on the free agency shelf.

But Caden Sterns will have to do. At least for now.

AUG 11 - LAZARD TO EAGLES? - To be clear, this is a "media proposal,'' not a team proposal.

But it's floating around out there: The Philadelphia Eagles should add to a wideout room presently topped by AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith by calling the New York Jets on vet Allen Lazard.

We're not sure why the Eagles are listed as a possible landing spot for Lazard by USA Today. ... but if there is any fire beneath the smoke?

We wonder - beyond the cap savings of moving Lazard - what the Jets get out of this "proposal.'' USA Today wants Philly to trade a "late-round pick'' for Lazard. ... But maybe they should ask his buddy Aaron Rodgers ...

Would you rather have Lazard now?

Or a "late-round pick'' for a time when you might no longer even be here?
