Joel Klatt made it very clear on Monday which team he believed had the best and most impressive performance of the entire weekend during Week 1 of college football.

Week 1 was filled with some astonishing performances, underwhelming play by specific teams, and a little bit of controversy.

However, there were still some massive victories and wins that will set the tone of the season, which is exactly what happened in College Station Saturday night when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish took down the Texas A&M Aggies 23-13, and it surely caught the attention of Joel Klatt.

"Notre Dame goes into Texas A&M, and as an underdog, they win against a top-20 Texas A&M team, and they did it in one of the most hostile environments that I've seen in a long time. So the way that Notre Dame executed in that game is even more impressive. That was an incredible win for them, and I think that sets them up for something that could be a very special season." Klatt said on his podcast.

The Fighting Irish schedule isn't one that's grueling. The next four games are all that should be easily winnable. The next true test outside of potentially Louisville on September 28th is at Georgia Tech on October 19th.

Nonetheless, Riley Leonard is the most competent quarterback head coach Marcus Freeman has had, and the program has had in quite some time. His ability to extend plays with his feet when things get ugly makes him a serious playmaker, and in college football, playmakers win football games.
