Top teams from around the country showcased their dominance in Week 1. The Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas Longhorns, Alabama Crimson Tide and Ole Miss Rebels had convincing wins over lesser competition.

Georgia beat the Clemson Tigers 34-3 in Week 1. The Bulldogs held the Tigers to 189 yards of total offense and forced one interception from quarterback Cade Klubnik.

Greg McElroy saw enough from Georgia in Week 1 to call the Bulldogs the best team in college football on a recent edition of " Always College Football ." He pointed out that the secondary still needs to improve, but he still felt that Georgia was the best team in the country.

The Bulldogs struggled in the first half but turned things around in the second half for a complete win. Carson Beck had 278 passing yards and two touchdowns. The team had 169 rushing yards, with running back Nate Frazier leading the way with 83 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Georgia went into halftime up 6-0 and outscored Clemson 21-3 in the second half for a dominant win.

"Georgia is the best team in the country after Week 1," McElroy said. "...I still think the question mark, if you're gonna beat Georgia, you've gotta take advantage of their secondary.

"We'll find out as the season goes along, and they start to play against better passing attacks just how improved that group may be, or are they the same as they were in Week 1 against Clemson. Georgia, as of this moment, appears to be the best team in the sport."

The Bulldogs have proven they can live up to the task in past seasons. Georgia won two consecutive national titles in 2021 and 2022. However, they missed the College Football Playoff after losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship in 2023.

Georgia returns home to Athens in Week 2 to face Tennessee Tech on Sept. 7. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. ET on SEC Network+ and ESPN+.
