Kelce Issues 6-Word Warning to NFL

    By Mike Fisher,

AUG 4 WARNING! Travis Kelce has done it all, with his All-Pro status and his three Super Bowl rings. So what is there left to do? More.

When the subject of retirement is broached, Kelce generally jokes it away. But this time, as KC preps for Thursday when the Chiefs host the Ravens? Taylor Swift's sweetheart seems quite serious.

"The best is yet to come,'' Kelce vowed. ... which again, considering his accomplishments, is a mouthful.

AUGUST 29 - CUT— While Tuesday's 4 p.m. roster cutdown deadline has passed, NFL teams are still not done making moves. Player acquisition will continue throughout the season as teams deem necessary.

The Kansas City Chiefs are a recent example of this, as they made a change following the announcement of their initial 53-man roster. After successfully claiming former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Eric Scott Jr. off the waiver wire, the Chiefs released fellow defensive back Nic Jones.

Jones, the former 2023 seventh-round pick out of Ball State, has ended his time in Kansas City after just one season. Jones played in just nine games as a rookie, totaling four tackles, one for a loss, and one quarterback hit.

Chiefs Receiver Marquise Brown Primed for Bounce-Back Season?

AUG 29 NEW QB The Los Angeles Chargers would be going nowhere fast without star quarterback Justin Herbert, and backup Easton Stick hasn't been good enough. Enter Taylor Heinicke, as the Chargers have traded for former the Falcons and Commanders quarterback starter.

Heinicke spent last season with the Falcons, starting four games for the team last season. Before that, he started in Washington and became a folk hero of sorts when he helped the 2020 edition of that team make the playoffs.

AUG 26 NIL AND MAHOMES How much has the new NIL rule changed college football? So much that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany - who just donated $5 million to his old school, Texas Tech - might've stayed with the Red Raiders longer to make money as a "amateur.''

In a recent NFL.com Q&A, Mahomes was asked if he might have delayed his jump to the NFL had NIL been in existence then.

“It would have been a good amount of money, especially for Lubbock, Texas,” Mahomes said. “If I would have been able to get NIL, I probably would have stayed for my senior year, and who knows what the rest of my NFL history would have been?”

How do the Chiefs feel about NIL now? We don't know. How do they feel about it not being in existence when Mahomes was in Lubbock? One can only imagine.

AUG 24 UPDATE Thursday night's preseason game between the Chiefs and the Bears was marred by the frightening sight of Bears defensive back Douglas Coleman III suffered an injury while making a tackle, his neck napping back violently while colliding with Chiefs receiver Cornell Powell.

Coleman was taken away in an ambulance and later hospitalized.

Bears head coach Matt Eberflus has offered an update, sayaing that the defensive back was on Friday allowed to travel back to Chicago and that Coleman is "walking around."

Coleman was most recently a standout in the Canadian Football League as he tries to stick with the Bears, who went 4-0 in the preseason as they now prep to take on the Titans in NFL Week 1.

AUG 13 COACH BREAK Offensive line coach Joe D’Alessandris, now of the Ravens and formerly with the Chiefs during his long NFL career, will be away from the Baltimore team due to a medical issue.

"Coach D'Alessandris is widely respected and cherished in our organization," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "As he focuses on his health, we offer him unwavering support."

D'Alessandris, 70, was hospitalized last weekend with an acute illness that "will require ongoing treatment for an extended period of time."

AUG 6 CHARGERS PLAYOFF BOUND? The Los Angeles Chargers finished with a 5-12 record in 2023, and they hired Jim Harbaugh to be their next head coach to try and fix that problem.

In a recent article by Will Brinson of CBS Sports , he lists some NFL teams who could make a jump into the postseason this year.

One of the teams he mentions is the Chargers, as he thinks Harbaugh is the missing piece they have been looking for.The Chargers' new head coach has a reputation for winning, as he is a 188-71-2 as a head coach.

That leadership combined with the talent the Chargers have could lead the team to contend with the likes of the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.

AUG 6 LB SIGNED Darius Harris, the former Kansas City Chiefs backup, is making the move to the Dallas Cowboys.

Harris, 28, has contributed on and off with the Chiefs since going undrafted in 2019.The 6-2, 238-pounder figures as a camp body for Dallas at this time but does have enough experience - the Chiefs lifted him last winter from the Raiders practice squad so he was part of their run to the Super Bowl - to maybe help on special teams for the Cowboys.

AUG 6 NO CHRIS OR CLYDE Chris Jones (shoulder) and Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) are among the Chiefs who didn't work at camp on Tuesday.

“Chris Jones got a little tweak to his shoulder, stinger type thing, so he came out for a little bit," coach Andy Reid said before the absence.

And in CEH's case? Edwards-Helaire has recently shared details about about his struggles with PTSD, which is assumed to be his issue here.

Additionally, Kelvin Joseph (hamstring), Nick Bolton (elbow) and Jaaron Hayek (shoulder) didn’t practice for the Chiefs, while Derrick Nnadi was activated from PUP and was able to participate in today’s practice.

AUG 6 ONE MORE TACO? Taco Charlton, "over-drafted'' with the 28th pick back in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, keeps trying to find a way to stick.

And now Taco - who has spend some time, on and off, as a Chiefs helper, is asking for something ..."Just need 1 more chance,''

Taco tweeted over the weekend. Most recently, Charlton, still just 29, was with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL, and he finished this past season with six sacks and 14 total tackles. Can all of that mean one more chance for Taco?

JULY 31 WR MOVES Byron Pringle, who helped the Chiefs win a Super Bowl in 2019, is re-upping with Washington, as the Commanders made a move on Wednesday likely designed to help bolster their special teams.

That is where Pringle, 30, had his role there last year, as he played in all 17 games for Washington in 2023.While in Kansas City, though, in 2021, Pringle did put up some numbers when caught 42 passes for 568 yards with five touchdowns.

Pringle also earned himself a Super Bowl ring from his time with the Chiefs as part od the team in 2019.
