Edge rusher Haason Reddick of the New York Jets is arguably the biggest potential trade chip in the NFL heading into Week 1, and the right deal could see the rich get even richer in the NFC.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report released his first "trade block big board" of the season on Wednesday, September 4. He named Reddick as the No. 1 player on that list due to the fact that the outside linebacker has already requested a trade from the Jets after the organization refused to extend him this summer.

Knox went on to mention the San Francisco 49ers as a top potential suitor for Reddick's services.

"The Jets are rapidly running out of time, and Reddick is the most obvious trade candidate on our board," Knox wrote . "The 49ers might also want to kick the tires on Reddick. San Francisco could face major cap issues in 2025, when quarterback Brock Purdy will be extension-eligible, but it has $46.4 million in cap space available now."

According to Over The Cap, the 49ers available space leapt to $65.4 million on Wednesday afternoon.

The 49ers have played in four of the last five NFC Championship Games and made the Super Bowl twice during that stretch, falling to the Kansas City Chiefs on both occasions.

They remain firmly in contention after extending star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and reworking the contract of All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams in recent days.

That reality, coupled with some injury issues to its group of edge rushers, renders the organization a good fit for Reddick as it tries to get over the hump before the roster grows too expensive to keep in tact.

"San Francisco is also firmly in its Super Bowl window and may need more depth in its pass-rushing rotation," Knox continued. "Offseason acquisitions Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos have both been dealing with knee injuries."

The trade cost for Reddick is almost certain to be at least a second-round pick. The Jets gave up a conditional third-rounder to the Philadelphia Eagles to secure Reddick over the offseason and immediately took the position that they would not deal him after he issued his trade request.

San Francisco owns its own second- and third-round picks in 2025, as well as a compensatory pick that will fall near the end of the third round, per Niners Wire .
