Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Scouts Xavier Worthy vs. Ravens

The Kansas City Chiefs knew they needed speed on the offensive side of the ball this offseason, and the franchise signed Marquise Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy in the first round to give Patrick Mahomes vertical speed to stretch the field.

For Worthy, it has been an offseason of learning as he adjusts to Andy Reid's playbook and gets used to Mahomes' way of doing things on the field. The rookie had strong showings in camp and one of Kansas City's preseason games, but now the real stuff begins.

With the Baltimore Ravens coming to Arrowhead in just a few days, Mahomes has revealed what he likes about the rookie's addition to the offense.

“I think just route running," Mahomes said . "A guy that played physical too, I mean, for him to not weigh a ton, he plays hard, he plays through stuff, he goes out there and competes. Then the speed, obviously it opens up the field but he's not just a fast receiver, he's a guy that can run routes, he plays hard, plays fast and you want those type of guys on your football team.”

With Worthy and his 4.21 speed in the offense, the Chiefs suddenly have an embarrassment of riches regarding weapons for Mahomes.

Travis Kelce, Brown, Worthy, Mecole Hardman, Rashee Rice, Justin Watson, and Skyy Moore make up Mahomes' arsenal, and we can add Isiah Pacheco to the mix. Pick your poison.

That's a lot of firepower for the defending Super Bowl champs, and with the home-run factor now real, the Chiefs have many ways to dissect a defense.

And as Mahomes said, having someone with blazing speed like Worthy, you can't have enough of them on your team.
