Peter Schrager Predicts Surprise NFL MVP Winner for 2024 Season

    By Shane Shoemaker,

On the cusp of the 2024 NFL season kickoff, NFL insider Peter Schrager has been making his predictions for the year.

Schrager has been on an impressive streak, correctly picking the last five Super Bowl winners. He revealed his playoff picks on Tuesday morning and made his prediction for the Super Bowl 59 winner, choosing the Kansas City Chiefs just days after they defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58.

If Schrager is correct, the Chiefs would be the first team in NFL history to secure three consecutive Super Bowl titles.

On Wednesday, Schrager moved past team predictions and focused on an individual award: MVP. Last year, Schrager predicted that the 49ers' Christian McCaffrey would win the award, becoming the first non-quarterback to do so in over a decade. However, the award went to the Baltimore Ravens' Lamar Jackson for the second time in his career.

While on an episode of Good Morning Football , Schrager made his pick for the 2024 season, choosing New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

"See, it's the story," Schrager said while explaining his decision on choosing Rodgers. "It's why when looking for an MVP, you look at it differently than you would an NFL Offensive Player of the Year or the Super Bowl MVP, or even the top player in your NFL 100. So, for my MVP, I turn to the story of the season."

Schrager detailed an encounter he had with a family of mostly Jets fans, which included a father and his three sons. All three sons were fans of different teams and were wearing different jerseys—except for the middle child, whom the father said was "cursed" because he was a Jets fan like him and his father. The child, who said he owned an Aaron Rodgers Jets jersey, mentioned he wouldn't wear it until Rodgers completed a full game with the team.

Schrager went on to explain that this is the life of Jets fans, and it's hard to argue with that. The Jets are currently on a 13-year postseason drought, the longest active drought among the four major sports leagues in the United States.

The Jets' opening game from last season may have been the peak of it all, though, when Rodgers, who had helped build immense hype around the team's chances of not only returning to the playoffs but also winning the Super Bowl, went down after just three offensive snaps, tearing his Achilles and ending his season.

The Jets finished 7-10 and missed the playoffs... again.

Many have written this team off by now, even their own fans. Schrager, however, is bullish on this year's Jets team.

"There's nobody in the media, our field, who is out on a limb more on the New York Jets right now than I am. I think they are a fantastic team," Schrager said. "They won seven games a year ago on unspeakable quarterback play. And they used 20 different offensive linemen. My MVP of the league this year is Aaron Rodgers."

Rodgers is a four-time NFL MVP award winner, having claimed the award in 2011, 2014, 2020, and 2021 while with the Green Bay Packers. If he were to win the 2024 MVP, he would tie Peyton Manning for the most in NFL history with five .

Schrager also said the Jets will make the playoffs this year and become "the story" of the 2024 season.
