The Cleveland Browns are making last-minute roster evaluations ahead of their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys by hosting workouts for nine players.

This move follows the Browns' decision to waive wide receiver David Bell , a 2022 third-round pick, creating an opening on the active roster that the team is eager to fill.

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the Browns worked out several defensive players and offensive linemen, including rookies Gottlieb Ayedze and Andrew Coker, and defensive edge rushers Nelson Ceaser, Ty Shelby, and Luiji Vilain. While Ceaser is a rookie, Shelby and Vilain both have limited NFL experience, each appearing in one game last season.

Additionally, Cleveland evaluated three cornerbacks—D’Shawn Jamison, A.J. Woods, and Damarion Williams—and safety Joshuah Bledsoe, who has played in four games over the past two seasons with New England.

This strategic move hints at Cleveland's intention to bolster their depth , either on the defensive line or special teams.

Although none of the defensive backs have appeared on the injury report, general manager Andrew Berry’s focus on maintaining a strong presence in the trenches may have driven this round of evaluations. Alternatively, these workouts could indicate a potential elevation from the practice squad to the active roster to replace Bell.

While it is unlikely that any of the workout participants will immediately secure a roster spot, the Browns’ front office remains proactive in assessing all available options to enhance their lineup ahead of Sunday’s matchup .

This approach aligns with Cleveland’s strategy of consistently rotating talent to maintain a competitive edge throughout the season.
