Brian Kelly started out his most recent press conference addressing some injuries that the team has been working through. Offensive lineman Garrett Dellinger is listed as questionable and wide receiver Chris Hilton is out for tomorrow night’s game. Additionally, Coach Kelly confirmed both John Emery and Princeton Malbrue both had knee surgery this week and will miss the remainder of the season.

On how the running game has looked in practice

Brian: I think from a running game standpoint, as we continue to unwrap the running game from last week, it really was situational more than anything else…It’s really trying not to be in such a predictable formation, having a little more balance to the offensive sets. I like what we do, I like our players upfront. I’m very confident as time moves on the offense and in particular the running game is going to be the strength.

On possibly utilizing other positional players at running back

Brian: We feel pretty good right now where we’re at. In terms of the running back position, we feel sick about John [Emery]. You know, sometimes you think about this and you wonder, how can this be fair in any way to this poor kid? He’s just overcome so many obstacles. You know he’s in a non contact situation and he sticks his foot in the ground and he tears his knee up. It was just so disappointing. He had surgery [Thursday], successful surgery…We feel so bad for him and his family but John has overcome so much. I’m so proud of what he’s accomplished in getting his degree from LSU. He’s going to be successful in life and we’ll see what the future holds for him.
