Kirk Herbstreit Predicts Major Top 25 College Football Upset

The ESPN "College GameDay" crew shared some interesting selections for the Week 2 slate of college football.

Kirk Herbstreit and the "College GameDay" panel dropped their picks while they were having a live show in Ann Arbor, Michigan for a matchup between the Texas Longhorns and Wolverines.

Most of the crew picked No. 3 Texas as the favorite to win that game over No. 10 Michigan.

However, the attention veered away from the primetime matchup when Herbstreit shared his surprising choice in taking the Illinois Fighting Illini to take down the No. 19 Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday.

Not only does Herbstreit believe the Fighting Illini will secure a Top 25 victory; he believes Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer will outplay Kansas signal caller Jalon Daniels.

Luke Altmyer is playing in his second season with the Fighting Illini. He originally transferred before the 2023 season from Ole Miss.

During the 2023-24 college football season, Altmyer recorded 13 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and 1,883 yards.

In Altmyer's first game with Illinois in 2024, he produced four touchdowns on 213 yards, with a 79.2 completion percentage. Alytmer led the Fighting Illini to a 45-0 victory over Eastern Illinois.

Kirk Herbstreit was the only individual on the "College GameDay" panel to select the Illinois Fighting Illini to upset the No. 19 Kansas Jayhawks.

Illinois entered the game as the +4.0 underdogs, with 82% of the fan votes selecting the Kansas Jayhawks to take care of business.
