Dak Scouts Zeke: 'Ultimate Team Player!

    By Adam Schultz,

The Dallas Cowboys' running back room is, for some, the most glaring weakness on the roster, and that is with Ezekiel Elliott returning.

In what will be a running back-by-committee for Mike McCarthy's offense in 2024, Elliott will lead the way with Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, and possibly Dalvin Cook helping out.

After a year without Zeke, Dak Prescott has his best friend back inside the building, and the pair can pick up where they left off after the 2022 season.

And with Zeke back in the fold, Dak knows exactly what he will get out of No. 15.

“Just the ultimate team player,” Dak said of Zeke. “Obviously, you probably won't see the amount of carries he had, but you're going to see a guy's productive and everything that we ask him to do whether it's running the ball whether it's the pass protection.

"A truly selfless player who wants to do anything and everything for his teammates and it's going to show him just his aggressive and his physicalness throughout the game.”

The Cowboys' run game lacked a powerful punch last season with Tony Pollard as the lead back; they get it now with Zeke.

However, with the current running back room, Dallas doesn't have the explosiveness that will scare teams in 2024; it is a ground-and-pound style, and time will tell if that will work in the Cowboys' favor.

In Elliott, Dallas gets the brutal runner it desperately needed last season but loses the home-run threat Pollard had (at times last year). Is that enough for the lame-duck Cowboys to have enough firepower on offense to amount to something substantial in 2024?

It gets its first stern examination against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
