Dodgers News: Teoscar Hernández injury creates uncertainty for Dodgers

Teoscar Hernández's recent foot injury has raised concerns for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they navigate a challenging homestand. The left fielder was hit by a pitch during the first inning of a game against the Cleveland Guardians, leading to his early exit.

Hernández took a slider to his left foot, which caused immediate pain and forced him to leave the field with assistance from the team's manager and head athletic trainer. Following the game, the team reported that initial scans and X-rays were negative, but further evaluations are planned to assess the injury more thoroughly.

“Not great,” answered Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts when asked for an update on Hernández .

“Scans, X-ray was negative. We’re going to get some scans tomorrow just to kind of dig in a little bit more and get some information. He’s as tough as they come, and he could barely move his foot. So I don’t see how it’s not going to be an IL, but I’m sure we’re going to give it a couple days to kind of see how he comes out.”

The Dodgers may soon place Hernández on the injured list, which could open up opportunities for players like James Outman or Dalton Rushing. Outman is already on the 40-man roster, while Rushing has been performing well in Triple-A, primarily playing left field.

“It’s high,” answered Roberts when asked for his level of concern. “He doesn’t come out of games, and just afterward, typically it subsides with the pain. But it didn’t, so it’s concerning.”

The team's management expressed significant concern about Hernández's condition, noting that he typically plays through discomfort. His inability to continue after the injury is a worrying sign for the Dodgers as they aim to maintain their competitive edge.
