Texas made a statement in Week 2.

On the site of ESPN's College GameDay, the No. 3 Longhorns dominated No. 10 Michigan in Ann Arbor. It reminded many college football fans of Texas' statement win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa next season.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers put on a show, throwing for 246 yards and three touchdowns. Ewers proved that he can consistently perform on the biggest stages and should be considered the Heisman Trophy favorite.

Tight end Gunnar Helm, Ewers' primary target on the day, ended the contest with seven receptions for 98 yards and one touchdown for a career high. Wide receiver Matthew Golden and running back Jaydon Blue each recorded six receptions.

The Longhorns defense also put on an impressive performance. Michigan committed three turnovers, two interceptions and one fumble, to the Texas defense. Defensive backs Andrew Mukuba and Derek Williams each recorded their first interception of the year, while defensive back Jahdae Barron recovered a fumble.

Several true freshman for Texas also made an impact. Five-star running back Jerrick Gibson finished with 10 carries for 36 yards and one touchdown, five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo hauled in one reception for 55 yards, and edge Colin Simmons recorded a sack on Michigan quarterback Davis Warren.

With Texas' favorable schedule, it would be viewed as a disappoint if the Longhorns enter the Red River Rivalry without an undefeated record on Oct. 12. Regardless, the future is bright in Austin.
