Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter is back in the NFL after a successful stint at the University of Michigan.

Minter, who previously coached for the Baltimore Ravens, is focused on improving a Chargers defense that struggled last season.

"Every game, no matter who you're playing, I think there's more eagerness that can sometimes feel like butterflies or anxiety. But I think it's all about just trust in the process, trust in your preparation," Minter told the media on Thursday.

"Going in with conviction and confident and [I] have a lot of confidence in our group. I look forward to seeing how it shakes out."

Minter's coaching experience includes four years with the Ravens, where he developed a strong secondary that featured Pro Bowl players.

During his time there, the Ravens ranked among the best in the league for points and yards allowed, contributing to a franchise-best 14-2 record in 2019.

Now, Minter faces the challenge of transforming a Chargers defense that allowed a franchise-record 63 points in a recent loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

This defeat marked a turning point for the team, leading to significant changes in the coaching staff and management.

With the arrival of Minter, head coach Jim Harbaugh, and offensive coordinator Greg Roman, there’s a renewed sense of optimism among Chargers fans.

The team is eager to see how Minter's strategies will play out when they kick off the season against the Raiders on September 8.

Minter emphasizes the importance of trusting the process and sticking to the fundamentals as they prepare for the upcoming season.

"I like to think most openers are a training camp game where you got trust your rules, you got to trust your foundation," Minter said. "At the end of the day, it's going to come day to playing good defense."
