Deion Sanders Shares Heartbreaking Injury Update on Son Shilo

The Colorado Buffaloes came into Week 2 with some momentum after taking down North Dakota State 31-26 in Week 1. However, this game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers isn't going the way Deion Sanders and the program would like.

Nebraska took a commanding 28-0 lead going into halftime leaving Colorado in the dust throughout the contest. Freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola played well in the first half, recording 126 yards and a touchdown.

But things have gone from bad to worse for the Buffaloes. Before hitting the field to begin the third quarter, Sanders revealed that his son and starting safety, Shilo Sanders, possibly broke his forearm in the first half of the game, according to Max Olson of ESPN.

"Deion Sanders tells NBC he thinks Shilo Sanders has a broken forearm and he won't return in this game."

Nebraska running back Dante Dowdell ran the ball up the middle and collided with Sanders on the field. Dowdell trucked the Colorado safety over before running in for the touchdown. Here's Dowdell's touchdown run that caused the injury and gave the Cornhuskers their fourth touchdown of the evening.

It's been a brutal night for coach Sanders and the Buffaloes. Not only is Colorado getting obliterated by Nebraska, but Shedeur Sanders has been hit on numerous occasions in the backfield. Add his brother's broken forearm injury and you have a worse-case scenario for this program.

Although Colorado is one of the most hyped up teams in the nation, they appear to still have some work to do before becoming a legitimate contender for the College Football Playoff.

Sanders took over the Buffaloes head coaching job in 2023 after serving as head coach for Jackson State for three seasons. Shedeur played for him at Jackson State while Shilo played at South Carolina for two seasons before they both transferred to Colorado.

Playing safety, Sanders has proven to be a reliable defender. However, he does have a knack for causing unnecessary penalties at times. Last season, he finished with 70 total tackles (career-high), four forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and an interception. He recorded a defensive touchdown as well.

The exact diagnoses for Sanders won't be announced until well after the Colorado-Nebraska game ends. If it is a broken forearm, then he should return from injury anywhere between three to six months. If that's the case, Sanders' season very well could be over.

Colorado will have a decision to make. Suffering an injury like that just two games into the season should qualify Sanders for a medical redshirt.
