USA Gymnastics Throws Subtle Shade At IOC Over Jordan Chiles Controversy

It’s been nearly a month since USA gymnast Jordan Chiles was stripped of her Olympic bronze medal by the International Olympic Committee after a Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling nullified her score that bumped her from firth to third place in the floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

And if you think USA Gymnastics is above getting a little petty with reminding everyone about the controversial incident, you’re sorely mistaken.

After Chiles threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the New York Mets game on Friday against the Cincinnati Reds, one fan tweeted a photo of her pitching stance, which bears a striking resemblance to an Artemision bronze statue of either Zeus or Poseidon (there’s debate about who the statue was actually modeled after).

This prompted a savage one-word response from the USA Gymnastics X account, which got more than 350,000 views, 6,500 likes and 530 reposts.

Though the dig at the IOC was subtle, it was well-received among USAG’s social media following.

“Oh clock it!!!” one fan commented .

“This is so funny and so real,” another wrote .

“KEEP THIS ENERGY UP, USAG,” a third user exclaimed .

“Well played,” wrote another user .

USAG and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee are still in the process of appealing the CAS’ decision to strip Chiles of her medal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal.

The Romanian Gymastics Federation also filed an appeal to the SFT on behalf of gymnast Sabrina Voinea, who also believes she has a case to be the bronze-medal winner, and the RGF recently announced its intention to open dialogue between Chiles, Voinea and bronze-medal holder Ana Barbosu about all three potentially sharing the medal.
