Dak Signs; Highest-Paid Player Ever, Gets 'The Bag & The 'Boys'

Dak Prescott revealed something this week that hinted at what just happened on Sunday morning, with him agreeing to the largest contract in NFL history.

He answered the question from Cowboys Nation about whether he valued "the bag of the 'Boys.'' And in the end, he got both.

Did Prescott always want to get paid in a huge way, somewhere, while also winning a Super Bowl, somewhere? Indeed. And as we've reported for months, $60 million APY - which is what he ends up with in his four-year extension totaling $240 million, with an astounding record $231 million guaranteed and an also-astounding $80 million signing bonus - gives him the payday.

But, yes, the Super Bowl part? He stated clearly he wants to do that as member of "America's Team.''

"That’s what motivates me on being here, just to be the quarterback that does it, that wins it," Prescott said a few days before Sunday's deal completion. "I don’t think that winning it any other place would be the same as winning it here. ... That’s A-No. 1 why I want to be here, to be honest with you.”

Cowboys bosses Jerry and Stephen Jones rolled up their sleeves at the negotiating table this weekend, and eventually bent toward the wishes of the star player, as they so frequently do. Dak wanted $60 million (or, better said, agent Todd France did) even though the QB's side attempted to leak "news'' to the contrary.

But Dak, who has guided the Cowboys to three straight 12-win seasons, also wants "legacy.'' And that happens by staying, by being part of a chain that stars Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman ... and by winning a Super Bowl.

The Cowboys really do matter to Dak. His heart told us so on Thursday.

And Dak really matters to the Cowboys. The Joneses' wallet told us so on Sunday.
