The head coach spoke candidly this week about the differences that social media hype, aka rat poison, can influence players and coaches compared to when he suited up in the NFL. He answered several questions on thi topic and his responses were very passionate.

On how players ‘eat rat poison’ and how they avoid ‘eating rat poison’

DeMeco: Yeah, I hope they don’t mess with rat poison. Players just have to focus on themselves and execute and that’s it. It’s with just speaking of rat poison, it’s what I defer to as just outside noise. And in today’s world, it’s so much at our fingertips of social media and everybody pretty much has an opinion on something. Not necessarily being that it has to be true, but anybody can say anything they want and it’s news now. And it’s a slight to you guys who put in the work every day and are here and

see what the guys go through on a day-to-day basis, but our guys can’t get caught up into whoever is saying what on the outside. It truly doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is about you focusing on yourself and going out and proving to your teammates that you’re going to be reliable, you’re going to be exactly where you’re supposed to be, you’re going to do exactly what you’re supposed to do on each and every play. And that’s how we operate here.

On if the outside noise was easier to avoid when he played compared to now with the rise of social media

DeMeco: Oh, yeah, for sure. When we played, it was easy. We didn’t have any – it was nice and easy for us. So, we didn’t have to worry about the Twitter and all the other things there.

On what the feeling was like this time last season compared to now

DeMeco: We’re fired up going into the season. It doesn’t – it’s new beginnings. We’re fired up about the 2024 season, fired up about our team. And just excited to kick it off and get going so we can stop having questions about last year. So, I’m excited about 2024 and pressing forward and seeing what this year has – lies in store for us.
