It wasn't the start quarterback Daniel Jones and the New York Giants had hoped for in their NFL season opener.

After only playing in six games last season due to a torn ACL, Jones returned to action on Sunday, September 8, against the Minnesota Vikings.

Throughout Jones' career, he's had ups and downs.

Besides his outstanding NFL debut in 2019 and leading the team to a playoff win in the 2022 season, he hasn't been all that special. On the bright side, fans nicknamed him "Danny Dimes" for his passing ability in those performances.

New York went just 6-11 in 2023, and the team believed it would be an improved football team in 2024. For the first time in Jones's career, New York has surrounded him with a true No. 1 wide receiver in rookie Malik Nabers to throw to.

However, it was all Vikings from the get-go. Minnesota quarterback Sam Darnold filled in nicely for the injured rookie J.J. McCarthy, throwing just five incompletions, two touchdowns, and one interception in the team's 28-6 win.

On the other hand, Jones completed 22-of-42 passes, threw for 186 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Giants fans were not happy leaving the stadium, and some even waited for Jones to walk out to boo and shout a new nickname at him.

    "Danny Pennies," they said.

This nickname is, of course, in relation to the original nickname they gave him in "Danny Dimes."

Jones and the Giants will look to turn things around in Week 2 against the Washington Commanders.

Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
