Connecticut Sun Sign Top-15 Pick From Phoenix Mercury Hours After Game

The WNBA season has resumed as three games took place on Thursday night. The big game was the Phoenix Mercury against the Chicago Sky, as the Mercury got an easy 85-65 victory in Chicago.

The Connecticut Sun, who enter with an 18-6 record, face the Dallas Wings on the road on Friday night. Ahead of the game, they added a player to the roster.

The Sun signed Celeste Taylor to a seven-day contract, per the team's official release.

"The Connecticut Sun has signed rookie guard, Celeste Taylor, to a seven-day contract the team announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed."

What's interesting is Taylor played 17 minutes and scored six points with a pair of assists in the Mercury's win over the Sky on Thursday night.

Hours later, she has signed a new deal with the Sun.

Taylor was the 15th overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever. She played five games with the Fever and four with the Mercury and will now join her third WNBA team in the span of just one season.

For some clarity, Taylor signed her seven-day contract with the Mercury six days before the break started, so Thursday was her final day on the contract.

Still, it's quite unusual to see somebody play for one team the night before and sign another contract the next day.

In July, the Mercury signed Taylor right before their game against the Fever, Taylor's previous team.

The Sun face the Wings on Friday and then the Atlanta Dream on Sunday.
