On Wednesday, the NBA Draft in what has widely been tabbed as one of the more bizarre and weaker draft classes in recent memory kicked off.

With the No. 1 pick in the draft, the Atlanta Hawks selected Zaccharie Risacher out of France. Risacher, who is a 19-year-old small forward, spent the 2023 season with JL Bourg in France. While growing up in France he was actually born in Spain, and now marks the second-straight player hailing from France being taken with the top pick.

While Risacher had been rumored to be in the mix for the top spot, fellow Frenchman Alex Sarr may have made the decision easier for the Hawks when he chose not to work out for them. As for Risacher, he will now have a new place to call home, and a massive NBA contract coming his way.

That monster NBA contract in question which many fans are always curious about will see him ink a deal worth $57.2 million across four years. According to Spotrac, the salary in his first season will be nearly $13 million.

Risacher will look to be the answer for a Hawks team that hasn't been able to get over the hump after making it to the Eastern Conference Finals back in 2021.

As for Sarr who was also in contention for the No. 1 overall pick, he was taken just one pick later by the Washington Wizards, and is set to net a deal worth $51.1 million.
