    ADOC arrests three on contraband-related charges

    Alabama Department of Corrections officers arrested three people for attempting to smuggle contraband into the prison Friday, according to a news release.

    Officers charged Justin Duckworth with first-degree promoting prison contraband, attempting to commit a controlled substance crime, first-degree possession of marijuana, certain person forbidden to possess firearm, second-degree receiving stolen property and prohibited activities.

    Officers charged Jajuan Williams with first-degree promoting prison contraband, attempting to commit a controlled substance crime, attempting to elude, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree possession of marijuana and prohibited activities.

    Amber Shields was charged with first-degree promoting prison contraband, attempting to commit a controlled substance crime, first-degree possession of marijuana and prohibited activities.

    At about 8:30 a.m. Friday, an officer observed a person attempting to introduce contraband into Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore, according to a news release.

    The officer turned on the car's lights and sirens before the suspect got back into the vehicle and fled.

    The officer pursued the fleeing vehicle on to Interstate 65. The suspect crashed the vehicle at Exit 10. The officer then apprehended the person after a foot chase and identified him as Justin Duckworth.

    Jaquan Williams was the driver, and Amber Shields was the rear passenger.

    All three were taken to the Escambia County Jail. Further charges may be pending, according to the news release.
