The Auburn Tigers have been searching for their first winning season since 2020 when they went 6-5 in a COVID-shortened season. They were just one miraculous play away from achieving that last season in Hugh Freeze's inaugural season as head coach.

The Tigers finished the year 6-7, ending with a bitter taste. They lost their last three games, two of which were at home, against New Mexico State, Alabama and Maryland.

Some believe the Tigers may make further progress this season. ESPN's Paul Finebaum is among them, predicting the Tigers could win seven or eight games in 2024.
"I think Auburn is somewhere between 7-5 or 8-4," Finebaum said.

Finebaum mentioned the Tigers could achieve an 8-4 record because of their schedule. He doesn't think the schedule is so tough that achieving this record is impossible. Sporting News ranked the Tigers' schedule as the 11th toughest in the SEC.

Finebaum considers the Tigers' toughest nonconference game against the Cal Golden Bears "very winnable." ESPN's Football Power Index also agrees with Finebaum's record prediction, projecting the Tigers to finish with a 7-5 record this season. This would mark back-to-back bowl-eligible seasons under Hugh Freeze.
