    Child dead after drowning in pool on Westfield Drive in Augusta

    The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a child drowned in a pool Tuesday afternoon on Westfield Drive.

    Just after 5 p.m., deputies responded to the 2000 block of Westfield Drive for a drowning, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

    When deputies arrived, they were told a child was found unresponsive in a pool, according to the release. The child, who has not yet been identified, was taken to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

    "There is no additional information available at this time," according to the sheriff's office.

    An autopsy has been scheduled, according to a news release from the Richmond County Coroner's Office.
