DENVER ( KDVR ) — Aurora police are investigating a deadly crash that closed westbound Interstate 70 for several hours.

Just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday, the Aurora Police Department tweeted that officers were responding to a crash on westbound I-70. The roadway was shut down starting at Chambers.

At about 9 a.m., officers provided an update saying the crash was between a Prius and a semitruck.

Following the initial investigation, police believe the Prius was lodged under the back of the truck. The driver of the Prius was pronounced dead on scene and was the only person inside the car.

Police said the semitruck driver was cooperative in the investigation.

SkyFOX flew over the scene where backups could be seen back to Airport Boulevard. I-70 was reopened at 9 a.m.

Aurora police said they are working on additional information about the crash, but speed is believed to have been a factor.
