Today is Sept. 1, 2024. And on this date in Texas history, the Texas soccer team had a record-setting day as it opened its 1996 season.

To open the 1996 campaign, Texas head coach Dang Pibulvech's crew scored 12 times in a shutout of Pittsburgh. While leading the offensive onslaught in Austin, Carol Finch recorded the first haul — also known as a four-goal game — in Texas' history.

Here is a look at the school records that still stand from that pummeling on the pitch of Pittsburgh:

    • Most points (team): 36
    • Most points (individual): Finch, 10
    • Most goals (team): 12
    • Most goals (individual): Finch, 4
    • Most assists (team): 12
    • Most assists (individual): Katie Baruth, 4
    • Fewest shots taken by an opponent: 0
    • Largest margin of victory: 12

The Pittsburgh game would be one of the few highlights for UT that soccer season. Texas went 8-10-2 and missed the NCAA tournament in 1996.
