AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Firefighters have brought a massive blaze at a south Austin apartment complex under control Thursday morning.

Fire crews were called to the Cannon South Apartments near William Cannon Drive and South Congress Avenue around 3:15 a.m. after residents at the complex called 911 reporting the fire.

Austin Fire officials said the blaze appears to have ignited on a corner balcony and spread to two other connected buildings. At the height of the blaze, flames could be seen shooting from the top of the building closest to William Cannon Drive.

Other buildings in the complex were evacuated, but residents were being allowed to return to the undamaged buildings.

According to officials, one person was evaluated for smoke inhalation but refused transport to a nearby hospital. No other injuries were reported.

With the three-alarm callout, more than 80 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze.

At least 25 residents were displaced by the blaze, with 21 units damaged either by the fire or firefighting efforts. The Central Texas Red Cross is assisting residents who were displaced by the fire.
