AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) said it received a report Friday that a dog died after swimming in Lake Travis on July 4.

LCRA said the dog’s death may have been caused by possible exposure to toxic algae near Point Venture. A sample was taken from the area; however, LCRA said test results would not be available for several days.

“We continue to encourage people to keep pets out of the lake near Point Venture, and to avoid contact with all algae, which can produce dangerous cyanotoxins at any time,” LCRA said.
