Texas Football Recruiting Drought Ends With Commitment From Difference Making Player

The Texas Longhorns ended a difficult stretch of recruiting losses with a huge win on Saturday. The Longhorns won out for talented defensive back Kade Phillips.

Phillips comes over from Missouri City (TX), the home of former Texas star Adonai Mitchell. His commitment gives the Longhorns a potential difference maker for future seasons.

The big-time safety possesses decent size for a high school prospect. Phillips checks in a 6-foot-0.5 and 185 pounds to give the Longhorns a defensive back that isn't far physically from being a college-ready player.

Phillips' versatility could pay dividends. He has played both cornerback and safety but currently projects as a safety at the college level by some recruiting analysts.

The skilled player ranks as the No. 16 safety and No. 191 player in the On3 Industry Ranking.

Texas still has its work cut out for itself after losing on big recruits in recent weeks. The Longhorns have seen last-minute losses on a couple players who were thought to trend their way.

The team's ability to win with Phillips is an encouraging sign for the program. Texas will look to generate momentum from the recruiting win for its 2025 class.
