Massive SEC Matchup Named College Football’s Must-See Game In 2024

The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners officially joined the SEC on July 1. Texas ended things in the Big 12 on a high note by claiming the title over the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

However, this year, the Longhorns will face an SEC powerhouse as a new conference member.

A critical SEC matchup for Texas could very well determine the outcome of its season. Texas faces the Georgia Bulldogs on Oct. 19 in a pivotal SEC showdown. With so much on the line, 247Sports' Carter Bahns named it the top "Must-See Game" following college football's conference realignment.

The game will be between Carson Beck and Quinn Ewers, two favorites for this season's Heisman. It will be extra significant because it is also between programs that could challenge for a national title.

"Carson Beck versus Quinn Ewers is the best quarterback battle of the 2024 season," Bahns said. "The Heisman Trophy frontrunners are not only the two most valuable players in the land, but they also stand atop two of the favorite teams to win the national championship."

Beck returned for another year after Georgia fell short of winning its third consecutive national championship. Ewers is back in 2024 after Texas was one play shy of contending for last year's national title.

The last time that these two teams met was in the 2019 Sugar Bowl. Texas came out on top 28-21, and former Longhorns' quarterback Sam Ehlinger declared that the program was "back" after the victory.

Georgia-Texas should be an excellent matchup in the SEC this season.
