Texas gets massive recruiting win with four-star athlete

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has the Longhorns cooking on the recruiting trail, and they just got another major win.

Not only is Nick Townsend, a four-star athlete, one of the most intriguing recruits in the 2025 class, but he represents a big-time recruiting victory.

Townsend's offer sheet includes the likes of LSU, USC, Alabama and Texas A&M.

At 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, Townsend is a pure athlete. In fact, 247Sports ranks him as the No. 3 athlete in the 2025 class because of his ability to play tight end, linebacker or even EDGE at the next level. He will come to Texas as a tight end, though, and the Longhorns hope to play him there, but that hasn't stopped linebackers coach Johnny Nansen from taking an interest in him.

"He was saying if one side of the ball doesn't work out then I can come flip to the other side so I'm just really blessed to be able to play both and just be the athlete that I am today," Townsend told 247Sports. "Without God I wouldn't be able to do any of that stuff."

Townsend has nearly 40 offers to his name and his finalists list was full of blueblood programs, but ultimately, the culture that Sarkisian has re-built at Texas seems to have won the big-time recruit over.

"I stepped on campus and felt the energy when I pulled up for the official visit," Townsend explained. "It was crazy, I felt the vibe, I felt the energy, the head coach came out and greeted me it was just crazy and a vibe that I didn't get from other schools. And I feel like they can make me bigger, faster, stronger there and take me to the next level honestly and then the fanbase is crazy. The fans love me there I feel like and I never got that feeling from anywhere else."

Texas fans have reason to be excited for both Townsend as well as Sarkisian's 2025 class.
