The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners will be in unfamiliar territory in 2024 after joining the SEC from the Big 12. Texas won the Big 12 and reached the College Football Playoff last season, while Oklahoma won 10 games in 2023 and appeared in the Alamo Bowl.

Greg McElroy appeared at SEC media days on Monday for ESPN and discussed expectations for the 2024 season. McElroy also discussed Texas and Oklahoma and mentioned how different the SEC is from other conferences.

McElroy said that every SEC team has a player that could take over a game, calling that the challenge Texas and Oklahoma may face in 2024.

"...Every single person that they face has a guy that will take over a game if you let them. You don't see that all the time in the Big 12, and you just don't see that all the time in some of the other leagues as well," McElroy said. "I think that will be the challenge, is playing at a really high level every single week. Because if you don't, there's gonna be a week where you can get got."

Texas had a good taste of what McElroy discussed in 2022 against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Texas lost a tight 20-19 game in Austin that season but got revenge in 2023 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Oklahoma saw what can happen if you do not bring your best game each week in 2023. The Sooners were 7-0 last season and lost consecutive games to the Kansas Jayhawks and Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The SEC newcomers better bring their best game in the SEC, or it could be a disappointing 2024 season.
