Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian has made it clear that the starting quarterback job belongs to Quinn Ewers, despite the high-profile addition of phenom Arch Manning.

But coaching legend Nick Saban believes fans could end up seeing both quarterbacks under center at some point this season.

In sharing some praise for Texas, Saban noted that Ewers has missed some time in the past and could well again this season.

"But I think Texas, if their defense comes through and they can replace some of the interior people they lost that were high draft picks and all that, they’re really good offensively," Saban said on July 15 at SEC Media Days, via On3 . "And even though their quarterback has missed time – Ewers has missed time the last couple years – Manning was lights-out in the spring game. Like, Arch was like, 21 for 25 for 347 yards."

Saban hinted that could be the case again this year, predicting that the Longhorns may need to call on Manning.

“That depth at quarterback is probably really important for them because Ewers has missed time the last couple years, a game or two, which could really affect where you end up," said the recently retired Alabama coach. "So I really like Texas."

Manning saw limited time in his freshman season in 2023. He appeared in two games last season, completing 2-of-5 passes for 30 yards.
