Paul Finebaum's comments about Arch Manning should frighten the rest of college football

SEC Network host Paul Finebaum made some comments about Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning this week that should frighten the rest of college football.

Finebaum told On3's JD Pickell that he thinks Texas is probably the second best team in the SEC entering the 2024 season. And one reason is because of the strength of having Manning as the backup to starting quarterback Quinn Ewers.

"They're probably No. 2 (in the SEC)," said Finebaum of Texas. "And the reason is I think they have an elite quarterback. And the guy after the elite quarterback may be better? I don't know, I like having him as a backup. Secondly, their recruiting is so deep....they're ready. Texas is not in need of anything. I love their attitude."

Ewers is a former five-star recruit who was rated as the No. 1 overall player in the 2021 recruiting class. He's a player that's already receiving first round hype for the 2025 NFL Draft. Suffice it to say, he's elite.

And Finebaum thinks Arch might be better?

Oh man, that's not what opposing defensive coordinators in the SEC want to hear. If you manage to get past Texas and Ewers in 2024, your reward might be facing an even better quarterback in Arch Manning in 2025.

There are plenty of teams in the SEC with a lot of momentum right now that are going to be championship contenders in the coming years -- Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Missouri are on that list.

Texas, though, has already proven they can get to the College Football Playoff. And it sounds like we should expect them to be even better in the next couple of years.

The SEC has always been a grind. But it's now, without a doubt, the strongest conference in the history of college football.
