Texas Coach Steve Sarkisian: Longhorns 'Obsessed' With Returning to Playoff in 2024

The Texas Longhorns face high expectations in 2024. Unlike in many recent seasons, the expectations are warranted after a College Football Playoff appearance a year ago.

Despite the general belief that Texas will be a good football team, there is some question over how the Longhorns will handle recent success. Past Texas teams showed signs of complacency after big wins.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian addressed the team's focus heading into 2024. He described his team's mentality at SEC Media Days.

"I've been asked a lot about, 'how's it been since the last pass fell incomplete against Washington?' I've felt like we've had a football team that's been obsessed with wanting to get back. And that obsession has led right into hard work, has led right back into who we are culturally and ... highly competitive workouts and practices."

Sarkisian's message indicates his team isn't satisfied with its playoff appearance from a year ago. Still, many will need to see the success duplicated to buy that Texas is a consistent threat to compete at that level.

We'll learn plenty about the Longhorns by Week 2 of the 2024 season. Texas faces the reigning national champions in the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. How the team performs in the matchup could be a strong indicator of how the rest of the season will unfold.

The Longhorns will open against the Colorado State Rams on Aug. 31.
