Nick Saban Makes His Opinion Of Emerging Texas Weapon Crystal Clear

The Texas Longhorns have become one team to watch during SEC media days. With the Longhorns joining the SEC, they enter the season as one of the more dangerous rosters in college football.

Former Alabama head coach and now ESPN analyst Nick Saban already had some telling comments about Arch Manning .

"I saw them all operate in their spring game, but, you know, Arch Manning was fantastic in the game," said Manning.

Then, Nick Saban had high praise for Texas running back CJ Baxter, per Nick Schultz of On3.

“I’m gonna alleviate some of your concerns because I know you’ve got seven wideouts that all can play,” Saban said to Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. “I know you’ve got three quarterbacks that all can play. Baxter was the best running back I saw of any team, aight, so you’re gonna be able to run the ball. If you can run it, you can always do better in the red zone. I’m just gonna do a little coaching clinic here just in case.”

Baxter is entering his sophomore campaign. In 2023, he rushed for 595 yards with four touchdowns, with Jonathon Brooks on the roster as the lead back.

Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell also departed from the offense, so Baxter could have even more touches in 2024.

Texas has a lot of expectations entering its first year in the new-look SEC. If Baxter can emerge as the weapon that Saban thinks he can be, that would be a massive boost to Sarkisian's team.
