The SEC media days, an annual event where media members nationwide get access to coaches and players from the SEC, concluded last week. One of the major topics was the official addition of the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns to the league.

The Longhorns are heading into the 2024 season with high expectations after winning the Big 12 and making it to the College Football Playoff last season. ESPN's Paul Finebaum said the Longhorns were the stars of SEC media days because of the confidence and style they brought in.

"I think the University of Texas was the star of the show in many ways," Finebaum said. "They came in with bravado. They came in with swag. I thought Steve Sarkisian was fantastic."

ESPN's Football Power Index measures team strength and aims to predict a team's performance for the rest of the season. According to the index, the Longhorns are ranked as the No. 2 team in the SEC and the No. 3 team overall.

Texas is projected to have a 10-2 record for the year, with a 24.2% chance of winning the conference. It also has a 67.8% chance of making the College Football Playoff and an 11.4% chance of winning a national championship. It seems like the Longhorns may finally be "back" to being perennial national contenders.
