The SEC welcomed two premier college football programs this offseason: the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns are seen as instant contenders, while the Sooners are viewed as a team with many question marks.

The Sooners are in their third year under head coach Brent Venables. In his first year, Venables went 6-7, marking Oklahoma's first losing season since 1998. However, he bounced back and made significant improvements in Year 2, finishing with a 10-3 record.

A caller on The Paul Finebaum Show asked the SEC Network analyst if it was accurate to say that Texas is better prepared for the SEC than Oklahoma due to its upward trend compared to Oklahoma's downward trend. Finebaum said it's accurate to say that right now, but it won't remain that way because he likes what is happening in Oklahoma.

"In this moment, it's accurate," Finebaum said. "I say this after having spent a couple of trips to Norman, but I don't think it's going to remain this way. I really like what I'm seeing out there."

Finebaum admitted that it's "to be determined" how Oklahoma will navigate the SEC compared to what the Sooners did before. However, he feels that the program is on its way back. Finebaum said that he'd be very concerned if it were trending downward, but he doesn't believe it is.

Finebaum mentioned that the Longhorns have gotten aligned for the first time in "almost 20 years," which is why Texas is currently successful. He concluded that Venables is ready for significant success.
