Steve Sarkisian compared new WR Silas Bolden to legendary NFL star

Silas Bolden always felt like a seamless addition to Texas' multiple scheme offense, but even so, the speed at which he's drawn rave reviews was mind blowing. Just one practice in, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian is already comparing the Oregon State transfer to legendary NFL star Steve Smith.

Here were Sarkisian's full comments to the assembled media after Wednesday's first summer practice:

"Silas is fearless. He's not afraid to do any of the dirty work. He runs all the route tree. He plays tough. He plays hard, but he also uses his strengths to his ability -- he's quick, he's fast in the open field, he trusts his speed, he's elusive. But at the end of the day, he doesn't shy away from the contact and I think that's the key ingredient for a guy that's not the biggest player. He's got to be brave, he's got to have courage, he's gotta be fearless, and that's what he has."

Of course, Bolden's stature also draws inevitable Steve Smith comparisons. The rising senior stands just 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds, but plays much bigger. In fact, his versatility could make him a candidate to build on the 50+ receptions and five touchdowns he had for Oregon State in 2023.

If not, it likely won't be for lack of talent or fit. As Sarkisian also noted Wednesday, the team has such an embarrassment of riches it could be hard at times to ensure everyone gets the offensive touches they deserve.
