The Texas Longhorns are planning to keep things slow and steady with Arch Manning this fall.

Manning saw limited time in his first season in Texas, appearing in two games and completing 2-of-5 passes for 30 yards in the 2023 season. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian made it clear that Manning would begin the season as No. 2 behind Quinn Ewers but could see some playing time.

When asked by a reporter on August 6 whether he envisioned Manning getting snaps in September, Sarkisian was confident in his reply.

"Of course I do," said Sarkisian .

But Sarkisian added that Manning would not be forced into game situations, meaning his playing time would come during blowouts with the outcome well in hand.

Former Alabama coach Nick Saban believes Manning, the No. 1 recruit of the 2023 class, may get some extended chances to play this fall.

“That depth at quarterback is probably really important for them because Ewers has missed time the last couple years, a game or two, which could really affect where you end up," Saban said at SEC media day on July 15, via On3 . "So I really like Texas."
