Texas received devastating news on the injury front this week.

Longhorns starting running back CJ Baxter suffered a knee injury during Tuesday's practice. MRI results revealed an LCL/PCL tear which will require surgery and sideline him for the 2024 season. The recovery timeframe is between six to nine months.

The sophomore was next in line to take over Texas' backfield following Jonathon Brooks' departure to the NFL. Now, third-year running back Jaydon Blue is set to start for the Longhorns this season.

Blue played in all 14 games last season for Texas, rushing for 398 yards and three touchdowns on 65 carries. He added on 14 catches for 135 yards and one touchdown through the air.

While losing a player of Baxter's talent is certainly devastating, Texas has quality depth at the position. Although unexperienced, Tre Wisner, Jerrick Gibson, and Christian Clark will be nice compliments to Blue this season.
