SRP to host ribbon cutting for new storage locations

Salt River Project and Plus Power are hosting a ribbon-cutting event Monday to commemorate the opening of two new battery storage facilities.

The storage facilities, Sierra Estrella Energy Storage and Superstition Energy Storage adds 340 megawatts of additional battery storage to SRP’s system. The storage addition is enough to power 76,000 Valley homes for a four-hour period, just in time for summer.

The batteries, which include SRP’s largest grid-tied battery and Arizona’s largest standalone battery, will absorb excess energy on SRP’s grid and store it for times of peak demand while facilitating the continued integration of renewable resources into SRP’s power system.

The event begins at 8 a.m. June 24 at 3700 S. Avondale Blvd. in Avondale.
