    By Maggie Degnan,

BARABOO, Wis. -- Sauk Co. dispatch said the shelter in place for the area of Water St. and Manchester St., has been lifted but they have not arrested Miller.

    PREVIOUS COVERAGE

The Sauk Co. Sheriff's Dept. said they're actively searching for a suspect who engaged police in a chase and fired shots at them, injuring one officer.

At 11:06 p.m. Tuesday, an officer from the Sauk Prairie Police Dept. attempted a traffic stop on a red minivan for a possible intoxicated driver.

The vehicle fled, disregarded traffic signs, and the officer started a pursuit.

The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on HWY 78. The license plate for the minivan was obtained and the officer stopped the pursuit.

Minutes later, a deputy came across the minivan on HWY 113 near County Rd. DL and followed it towards Baraboo. An officer deployed stop sticks near Water St. and Manchester Rd.

The driver kept going northbound around the sticks, and crashed a short distance later.

As deputies arrived at the crash location, the suspect fired shots at them before running off west into a wooded area along HWY 13/Water St.

The officer who was hit suffered a minor injury.

The Sheriff's Dept. said the suspect remains at large and is presumed to be armed. They've identified him as Jeffrey Edward Miller, 32. He has ties to the Sauk and Juneau County areas. He's a white male, with short or shaved brown hair, and a medium length beard.

He was last seen in a black shirt. Law enforcement remained on the scene early Wednesday morning. Residents are still asked to shelter in place.

The sheriff's office and the Baraboo Police Dept. are investigating with the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Anyone with information about Miller's location should call the sheriff's office at 608-355-44-95 or the crime-stoppers at 1-888-TIP-SAUK.

Anyone who sees him or suspicious activity consistent with him should call 911.

    PREVIOUS COVERAGE

The Sauk Co. Sheriff's Dept. has asked residents to avoid the area of Water St. and Manchester St. in Baraboo due to an active law enforcement situation.

Dispatch said anyone living near those streets should shelter in place.

There was no other information dispatch could provide, but they said there would be an update soon form the sheriff's dept.
