A former Barron man accused in the fentanyl-related death of a Barron woman reached a deal on Monday and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

A felony count of first-degree reckless homicide had been filed against Sade A. Shirwa, 30, now of Burnsville, Minnesota, in Barron County Circuit Court on Aug. 17. He allegedly delivered fentanyl to a woman identified as S.H.S., who later died as a result of its use.

During a plea hearing on Monday, Shirwa pleaded guilty to second-degree recklessly endangering safety. His bond was revoked and a sentencing hearing has been slated for Aug. 14.

According to the criminal complaint, the police launched an investigation into the overdose death of S.H.S. after her body was found at her North Lake Street residence on Aug. 13, 2022.

Shirwa also faces a felony charge of stealing a vehicle in a separate case that was filed on Dec. 13, 2021. He pleaded guilty to the charge on May 7, and a sentencing hearing has been scheduled for July 8.
