There are several things to keep in mind to ensure this year’s Independence day is a safe one for everyone. The American Red Cross suggests attending professional firework performances that are being done, no matter if it is legal to do at-home fireworks in your parish or not. Glow sticks and noise makers make for a safer environment for celebrating, especially with children. If you are doing fireworks at home in a parish where it is legal, remember to always follow instructions on the packaging, keep a supply of water close by, wear eye protection if lighting the firework, light one firework at a time and store fireworks away from children or pets.
