2025 Lufkin (Tex.) defensive lineman Zion Williams committed to LSU, he announced on Twitter on the 4th of July. The four-star defensive tackle is a massive land for LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis, who beat out Texas, Texas A&M and others to get the East Texas product

Davis hosted his multiple times in 2024 since arriving in Baton Rouge from Austin. LSU extended an offer this fall under the prior defensive staff , but Davis made him a priority when he arrived at LSU. He hosted him for multiple visits, including an official visit in June that set the bar high.

“Me and coach Bo have been talking since he was at UT,” Williams told On3’s Justin Wells earlier this year . “I think he got a head start before anybody, because he was the first coach I really got to know well. He knows me well as a person. LSU feels like the parts of my town where I grew up. It’s been fun down there so far.”

Davis built a strong bond with the 6-4, 300-pounder over the last couple years recruiting him. Williams is a centerpiece for Davis when it comes to rebuilding LSU’s defensive line.

“I feel like coach Bo had my best intentions and wants to get me to a position where I can support a family when I have one,” Williams said. “It meant a lot to me when he says that he thinks that I have 3-year potential, but I’ll get a degree before I leave.”

LSU head coach Brian Kelly paid Williams a visit at Lufkin High in January, which also stood out to him.

“Never in my life would I think a head coach would come down from where they live to come talk to me. That’s a wild feeling,” Williams said. “I love Coach Kelly, he’s a genuine person. At my school, we had a very personal conversation, and he didn’t hesitate to answer my questions for me. It showed me a lot about his character and his need and want to develop his players.”

Williams is the No. 366 overall player, No. 31 defensive lineman and No. 54 prospect in Texas, according to the On3 Industry Ranking , a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
