McDonogh 35’s Jakai Anderson on LSU commitment: ‘They showed a lot of love out there at LSU’

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — The connection with the LSU coaching staff and opportunity to play big-time college football close to home gave McDonogh 35’s Jakai Anderson the confidence to commit to the Tigers ahead of his junior season.

“Love. I would say all the love. They showed a lot of love out there at LSU and I really think about where they can get their wide receivers too. The last 10 years, the top two wide receivers are from Louisiana. So, I just think about that too,” said McDonogh 35 wide receiver Jakai Anderson.

The 6 foot, 165-pound speedster is a dynamic talent on the football field with tremendous upside.

Anderson knows the most promising path to the NFL for in-state wide receivers runs through Baton Rouge.

Richie Mills: “How much do you pay attention to that when you see guys like Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. not just go first round, but what they are able to do on a football field. How much do you pay attention to that?”

“I pay attention to that a lot. Especially because it’s my position. So, I’ve got to watch it. Whenever I watch a game or go out there I just pay attention to that,” responded Anderson.

Jakai Anderson is a rising star in the class of 2026 and will spend the next two years growing, learning and helping McDonogh 35 navigate the challenging waters of Division I Select.

“Jakai is a special football player. He doesn’t mind the hard work and the dedication to the game. He’s a rare breed from this age. He loves the game,” said McDonogh 35 head football coach Frank Daggs.

Richie Mills: What do you need to work on now? What’s that improvement and next step look like for you?

“I would say a lot of route running, breaking down. More technuique, speed, stuff like that. Breaking in and out of cuts. You know, stuff like that,” answered Anderson.

McDonogh 35 opens the 2024 regular season against the St. Aug Purple Knights.
