Brian Kelly is on a heater.

The LSU Tigers have never been shy on the recruiting trail. But the 2025 recruiting class is shaping to be an all-timer for Kelly and his staff.

5-star cornerback DJ Pickett took to X to announce that he had committed to play for LSU.

"The deciding factor was him being happy," Pickett’s father told On3 . "Where he’s happy on and off the field. Where he can grow as a young man. It was mostly football based but also where he feels he can excel in the classroom and do the things in the classroom."

Pickett was the No. 1 player in the state of Florida for 2025. Listed as a cornerback or safety at various websites, he's listed with a unique, lengthy frame at 6-foot-4 and 178 pounds. He chose LSU over other top-tier programs like the Oregon Ducks and Miami Hurricanes. In fact, On3 projected Oregon as the favorites to land Pickett, but he chose to stay closer to home instead by going to LSU.

"Lanky two-way playmaker that allows the mind to get pretty creative when it comes identifying potential roles, but warrants a look as a field corner given one-of-a-kind frame and quick-twitched lower half," Andrew Ivins with 247Sports wrote.

The Tigers now have three 5-star recruits in their 2025 recruiting class , which is now ranked No 3 in the country. Harlem Berry heads to Baton Rouge as the No. 1 running back in the country, as well as an in-state recruit. Meanwhile, LSU was able to secure a commitment from the top-ranked player for 2025 in quarterback Bryce Underwood.

Brian Kelly is off to a promising start as head coach of the Tigers. Along with a 20-7 record over two seasons, he has produced consistent NFL talent, including most recently with Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels and his top receivers in Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr..

That college-to-NFL pipeline might just be the reason why so many top high school recruits are flocking to LSU.
