Enforcement of Louisiana's Ten Commandment classroom requirement put on pause
Louisiana's new law requiring all public school classrooms display the Ten Commandments will not be publicly enforced or endorsed in any way until November 15, 2024, according to a new court filing in the ongoing legal battle over the policy. Both parties agreed that the Ten Commandments will not be posted in any public school classroom and defendants -- including the state's Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education -- and schools will not publicly move forward on the law's implementation until November. Lester Duhe, a spokesperson for the Louisiana Attorney General's office, clarified that the defendants "agreed not to take public-facing compliance measures" until then because it will give time for "briefing, oral arguments and a decision" ahead of the January 2025 date in which schools have to have the Ten Commandments. The January requirement still stands pending the outcome of the suit.

In recent weeks Louisiana's coastal waters have been a bit on the tumultuous side. The passing of Hurricane Beryl just to the west of the state certainly kicked up the surf. This led to numerous coastal advisories for flooding, rip currents, and rough seas in general. And while the waters in the Gulf of Mexico may have calmed considerably since Beryl's passing there are still some dangers that bathers at Louisiana's most popular beaches should be aware of.

There are seven elective offices in the City of Gonzales (Mayor, Chief of Police, and five City Council divisions). For the first time…EVER, all seven positions will be filled by the winner of a contested election (also of historical note, at least four of those seven positions will be filled by someone other than an incumbent). Sullivan seeing sixth term as Donaldsonville mayor, council turnover coming
Leroy Sullivan is on the ballot seeking a sixth term as Donaldsonville’s mayor, opposed for the second time by Glen Price. The challenger would seem to be better positioned than four years ago, if for no other reason than brand familiarity the second time around.
