Nice crowd out at the Concord Pavilion tonight, waiting patiently for John Waite, Foreigner and Styx when – fffzzszzip – the power goes out. PG&E says 1,500 are afflicted out in that part of Concord-Clayton but we don’t know if they’re counting the concert goers – who were patiently returning to their cars for the ride home.

Brentwood: Championship Field to Be Named After Cecy Martinez
At its Tuesday meeting, the Brentwood City Council agreed to honor Cecy Martinez by naming the Championships Field at the Sand Creek Sports Complex after her. According to the agenda item, Martinez graduated from Liberty High School and attended Cal State East Bay. She was very active in the community of Brentwood and coached numerous students throughout her life. She was also a beloved school teacher who taught in Knightsen and Brentwood. In February 2023, she lost her fight with metastatic breast cancer and leaves behind many who love her and wish to memorialize her life (see application).
Lafayette: Gas-Power Leaf Blower Ban Begins July 1
Beginning July 1, gas-power leaf blowers will not be permitted for use by residents or landscape professionals in the City of Lafayette. The move comes after a ban was adopted by the City Council in October 2023 which prohibits the use of gasoline powered leaf blowers in Lafayette. The city delayed implementation for nine months to allow sufficient time for residents and property managers to make the switch. The City’s all-volunteer Lafayette Environmental Task Force researched and recommended the ban since gas-powered leaf blowers emit hydrocarbons, particulates, toxins, and carcinogens into the air – contributing to air pollution and negative health effects for the user.
